Cucinotta in 'Malena and the Tango': "I bring a special woman on stage"

Macerata, 2 July 2025 – The show 'Malena e il tango' with Maria Grazia Cucinotta , Gianvito Pulzone, Oscar Bellomo, Claudia Pompili and directed by Francesco Branchetti will debut tomorrow evening (3 July, 9:30 pm) as a national premiere, at the Morrofestival in Morrovalle . In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, a journey into the soul of a musical and poetic genre will begin where the protagonist, Malena, inspired by the song of the same name 'Malena canta il tango', will encounter iconic songs such as 'Oblivion', 'Volver' and 'Vuelvo al sur', for a tango intended not only as a dance, but as poetry that takes shape . "The national premiere is always a great emotion - said director Branchetti - I have never been to Morrovalle but I have brought all my shows to the Marche in twenty years and more of theatre". On stage, atmospheres, colors and the interpretation of an extraordinary actress will merge.

Cucinotta, what a show awaits us?

"Of great charm, on femininity, in which suggestions and poetic moments follow one another without interruption, leading the spectator on a journey into the world of tango".

From Rio de la Plata where it was born, to Morrovalle. How will Argentine tango be interpreted?

"We want to tell what tango was and is. Something extraordinary and truly magical."

Tango is based on the embrace, what would you like to convey to the public?

"I want to tell the story of a special woman, mysterious and full of personality, a woman with a thousand facets, as is ultimately the nature of tango. I want to tell the story of a woman's complex and multifaceted feelings."

How will the stage be set up?

"It will have an essential and very evocative scenography. It will be a journey through wonderful and imaginative worlds also through the use of light, music, and therefore the visual side of a theatrical show".

Director Francesco Branchetti has chosen her as the protagonist: how will she fit into the role of Malena?

"I will try to convey to the audience the feelings evoked by the text through the deep poetry it releases: they are strong feelings that come out of every line, every word spoken. I will also try to evoke the charm of tango and all the suggestion that surrounds it".

Upcoming projects?

"First of all this show and then the film 'Poveri Noi' produced by Rai Cinema by Fabrizio Maria Cortese with Paolo Ruffini, Ricky Memphis and Ilaria Spada in which I believe a lot".

This event will open the Morrofestival program which will then host Pierluca Mariti on July 24th , I Terconauti on July 31st and Amedeo Balbi on August 7th .
